Discover the Other Cape

Cape Ann replete with quiet towns, friendly folks and lots to do

Special to The Day

As we sail quietly through the falling dusk, the creaks and mild groans of the rigging of the 65-foot Schooner Thomas E. Lannon provide background for the soft conversations going on among the passengers. When our ship eventually turns and heads back into Gloucester Harbor, I'm aware of a marvelous sensation of peace. I can feel the stress fall away. Somehow our few hours on the water, with no motor sounds or gasoline smells, helped remove many of life's concerns. What a way to begin a relaxing weekend on the North Shore…

Cape Ann is definitely not your typical tourist area. It's peopled by folks who like their town and are anxious to share it with you. When we left our bed & breakfast to go home, John was there to bid us farewell, just as he had been there all weekend with advice, directions, or a cold drink. I look forward to bringing my husband back with me to share the warmth and friendliness of this less known vacation spot.
