Gloucester Harbor. The port city of Gloucester, Massachusetts is located
approximately 30 miles northeast of Boston, on the southern shore of
Cape Ann in Essex County. In 1604, explorer Samuel de Champlain sailed
into Gloucester Harbor and christened it "Le Beauport"-The Beautiful
Harbor. The stunning, rugged beauty that lured visitors years ago is
still inspiring today. This link takes you to the city's website.
The Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce has a

The Essex National Heritage Area, was
designated in 1996 by the U.S. Congress. The Essex National Heritage
Area covers the 500 square miles of eastern Massachusetts that lies
north of Boston. It's not one location, but thousands of historical
sites. Not a mile-long beach, but miles and miles of intact landscapes
and glistening coastal areas. Not one story and tradition, but lifetimes
of rich experiences that chronicle the history of our region, and our
nation.

Voted "Best Seafood in America"- Forbes FYI
As any seafood lover will tell you, there's no better place to enjoy
traditional Yankee fare than at Woodman's of Essex, where over 90 years
ago the fried clam was invented. The informal setting of this once
roadside stand adds to the delight of enjoying New England seafood at
its best. Woodman's is the ideal spot for a tradition of eating great
food, making memories, and having fun. So go ahead, dig in and get
messy!
There were over 4000 wooden sailing vessels built in the
neighboring town of Essex, MA. since 1688. Walk through the shipyard
where the Lannon was built in 1997, see artifacts, photographs, tools,
and the Evelina Goulart, one of the original Gloucester fishing
schooners.
Located in downtown Gloucester, just a few blocks from
Seven Seas Wharf is this world-class gem of a museum. The museum is home
to the world's largest collection of Fitz Henry Lane paintings, as well
as a fabulous fisheries exhibit. Definitely worth a visit. Caution: The
museum is closed on Mondays.
The Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center
is the only working historic waterfront museum in the Northeast that combines a
historic working marine railway, (where wooden vessels are hauled and
repaired), with a Gulf of Maine aquarium, vessels tracing the fishing
history of Gloucester, ongoing construction of wooden boats, and
educational exhibits and programs. The Heritage Center is a short two
block walk from the Lannon.
There are only a few places in the world where the
largest and some of the most beautiful, fascinating, yet most endangered
mammals on the planet come so close to shore that they can be visited by
nature lovers on a half day boat trip. Gloucester, Massachusetts is one
of those places. Seven Seas Whale Watch ties up right next to the
Lannon and usually sails twice daily.
This local company got its fifteen minutes of fame by
having one of its t-shirts worn by one of the characters in the movie
"The Perfect Storm." They are "the coolest guys around."

Ann through original and traditional material.
Accompanying themselves on banjo, guitar, and dobro, and often in the

serious and facetious, and always with a touch of humor and a grain of
salt.
Their newest CD, "Heartbeat from the Sea" includes the
Schooner Lannon song, which Daisy wrote for the launching of the Lannon
in 1997.
