Directions

Gloucester is located approximately 30 miles north of Boston, on beautiful Cape Ann. Gloucester is accessible by major highways and by train service from Boston's North Station.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THERE IS CONSTRUCTION ON THE A. PIATT ANDREW BRIDGE (ON RT. 128 OVER THE ANNISQUAM RIVER), so sometimes there is only one lane going in to Gloucester. ALLOW EXTRA TIME. The Lannon sails on time.

Most Direct Route

By car from Boston, get on Rt. 128 North (also known as Rt. 95) and follow that toward Gloucester. There is one tricky spot in Peabody where Rts. 128 and 95 split. Be sure you stay left on Rt. 128. Do not go right on Rt. 95 or you'll end up in NH. Stay on Rt. 128 to Gloucester.

There are several routes that will bring you into downtown Gloucester. The quickest and easiest way is to follow 128 N until you come to a rotary. Take the first right off the rotary (Exit 11). Friendly's Restaurant will be on your right. Follow Washington Street approximately 8/10 mi. until the Legion Memorial Building is directly in front of you. Bear right there (See the Joan of Arc on horseback statue), then take a quick left onto Angle Street. At the stop sign, go straight across the intersection downhill toward the harbor and then turn left onto Rt. 127, (Rogers Street). Go another 2/10 mi. and look RIGHT for the Gloucester House Restaurant sign, then the "Schooner Sails" sign on the right. You've found us! The Lannon ties up on the right hand side of the Restaurant.

We do not have parking at the Gloucester House Restaurant to offer you, but there is municipal parking nearby. Parking is $.50/hour. You do not have to pay to park on Sundays or after 6:00 p.m.

  • There is a municipal parking lot on Rogers Street, in front of the Gloucester House and adjacent to our office, with new pay-for-parking kiosks. The kiosks accept quarters and bills. They also accept credit cards for the entire 10 hr. time frame only. The kiosk print a parking slip, that you need to put on your dashboard.

Other downtown lots with either free parking or 10-hour kiosks and within a short walk:

  • The I4-C2 grassy lot, adjacent to and just north of the Gloucester House on Rogers St., is still offering free parking. Do not park in the "Tenant Parking Only" areas. Those areas are reserved for fishermen with parking stickers.
  • in St. Peter's Square lot, the brick parking lot located just south of us at the intersection of Rogers St. and Washington St. (FREE, but unavailable during Fiesta weekend).
  • along Rogers St. heading north, or on Harbor Loop, which is the next street on your right after you pass our sign, about 1/2 block north of us (10 hr. kiosks).
  • in the Fitz Hugh Lane lot, located at the corner of Rogers St. and Harbor Loop (10 hr. kiosks).

Remember, don't feed the parking kiosks after 6 p.m. or on Sunday. And please don't park in the Gloucester House lot.

As you walk toward the restaurant from Rogers St., look to the right and you will see two sheds on the right hand side overlooking the water. The one that says Schooner Sails is us! This is where you come to pick up your tickets. Boarding will begin 5 minutes before sail time.

This is our Schooner Sails shed. Come here to pick up your tickets before you get in line at the boat.

If you're driving a bus, or if you need to avoid Fiesta or the Parade...

Take Rt. 128 North. Go half-way around the first rotary and continue up Rt. 128 to the second rotary. Take the second exit off that rotary (still on Rt. 128 North). Go past the entrance to the shopping area. As you continue down the hill, get into the right hand lane. At the light, turn right onto Eastern Ave. At the next intersection, bear right (staying on Rt. 127). Follow this road along the waterfront and up the hill. Bear left onto Rogers St. at the top of the hill (Flanagan's gas station is at the fork in the road). Follow Rogers St. down the hill, past Gorton's, past Dunkin Donuts and Walgreen's on your right. You'll see the Building Center on your left, then a vacant lot, then the municipal parking lot in front of the Gloucester House, (the grey building set back on your left). This lot has an easy in/out access for buses. (After you drop off your passengers, there is bus parking further north along Rogers St. past Harbor Loop). Look for us in one of the sheds on the right hand side of the restaurant....that's where we are.

Come on in and we'll sell you your tickets before you head down the dock to the boat.

Scenic Route (via Rt. 133 and Stacy Boulevard)

Head north on Rt. 128. Take exit 14 (Rt. 133, Gloucester, Essex). Turn right at the end of the ramp and follow Rt. 133 a few miles until you see the water (Gloucester harbor) right in front of you. Turn left here onto Rt. 127 and keep the harbor on your right. (Be aware that there is a drawbridge that will surely open for boat traffic and delay you 15-20 minutes). You will pass the Fisherman at the Wheel statue and the Tavern (a big grey building) on your right. Follow this road as it zigzags into downtown Gloucester. We're at 63 rear Rogers Street, (Rt. 127), on your right as you follow the harbor. See parking suggestions above. ALLOW AMPLE TIME. The Lannon sails on time.

If you're coming from the North...

If you are coming from Maine or NH or other points north, take Rt. 95 S to exit 54 (Georgetown, Rowley, Rt. 133). Go left at the end of the ramp onto Rt. 133E. Follow Rt. 133 through Rowley and into Ipswich. Rt. 133 hooks up with Rt. 1A for a while as you go through Ipswich. Take a left onto Rt. 133 toward Essex at Cable Gardens. Stay on Rt. 133 through Essex and into West Gloucester. When you intersect with Rt. 128, you have the choice of the direct or scenic route (see above).

If you're coming from Rockport..

Get back onto Rt. 127 and head south to Gloucester. When you come to the intersection with Rt. 128, go straight through the light (Eastern Ave.). At the next intersection, bear right (staying on Rt. 127). Follow this road along the waterfront and up the hill. Bear left onto Rogers St. at the top of the hill (Flanagan's gas station is at the fork in the road). Follow Rogers St. down the hill past Gorton's, past Dunkin Donuts and Walgreen's on your right. You'll see the Building Center on your left, then a vacant lot, then the municipal parking lot in front of the Gloucester House.

Train and Foot Route

If you take the train from Boston, get off at the Gloucester station. As you exit the train, turn left and walk along Railroad Ave. At the three-road intersection, bear left onto Prospect St. Take the second street on the right (Dale Ave.). You'll see City Hall on your left and the Sawyer Free Library on your right. At the intersection with Middle St., take a right, then a quick left. The YMCA will now be on your right. We are at the bottom of the hill, past two short blocks, right in front of you.

Here is the link for the MBTA schedule from North Station to Gloucester and Rockport.

As you approach the Gloucester House, look to the right and you'll see two sheds on the wharf. We are the one that says Schooner Sails. Come on in and say hi!
